At the recent Illinois Lake County Principals Association's annual end-of-year breakfast, Lakes Community High School recognized the outstanding character and achievements of two seniors, Zariya Mouzon and Jake Wisniewski. Mouzon, better known as “Z,” was celebrated for her dedication and impact within the school community.

“Zaryia's unwavering commitment and positive spirit have left an indelible mark on our school,” LCHS Principal Jori Bowen said in her speech. “She has been an active participant in marching band, theatrical productions, and the service club Paws 4 Change. Zaryia is a multi-sport athlete taking part in track, soccer, football, and wrestling, bringing her determination and competitive spirit to the field and to the mat.”

Of all of Z’s commitments and contributions to the school community, it was on the wrestling mat that she really distinguished herself as an exceptional athlete. Earlier this year, Mouzon and the rest of the Lakes girls wrestling team won the 2024 Girls Wrestling IHSA State Championship, the first team championship in school history. Even though she is nationally ranked for her weight class, many of her classmates wouldn't know it because of how humble she is. “She is an unassuming leader who lifts up those around her. Z's positive attitude and genuine nature serve as an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing her,” Principal Bowen added.

Jake Wisniewski, the second LCHS student recognized at the event, has also made a significant contribution to the spirit and culture of Lakes Community High School. In addition to making the high honor roll this year, Wisniewski also competes on the boys varsity tennis team. Beyond athletics, however, Wisniewski is one of the leaders of our student fan section, the Royal Rush.

“Jake plays a pivotal role in generating energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie during school events and athletic competitions,” Bowen said. “His boundless enthusiasm and contagious positivity uplift the entire school community and create an atmosphere of unity and pride. Jake's genuine love for Lakes is evident in everything he does, and his exemplary character is inspiring. Jake truly embodies the “Respect + Courtesy = Pride” foundation of Lakes Community High School.”

Congratulations to these two outstanding seniors!
