October D117 Updates in 5 minutes or Less!
D117 Families, Students, and Staff,
This is the October edition of a monthly update wherein you will receive timely reminders, links for upcoming events, and news from Community High School District #117. We promise to keep this to a 5 minute read (or less!)!
1. We Want Your Feedback on Parent-Teacher Conferences
We changed our parent-teacher conference format this fall to align with a new goal in our strategic plan. Our goal was to connect with the family of every student who has a grade lower than a C in any class. We want your feedback on how it went! If you are a parent / guardian of a current student, we would appreciate it if you complete the very brief survey at this link.
2. Winter Sports Registration
We want to wish all of our fall programs still competing the very best of luck in the IHSA State Series! Winter athletics are starting now, so be sure to register by using this link and be part of great programs and traditions this winter.
3. Fall Edition of Connections Magazine Published
The fall edition of our community magazine called Connections is now available for pick up, home delivery, or viewing online. This edition includes several articles about District 117 including feature articles on our new D117 Portrait of a Graduate (p.10), our new coding class where students are learning Python coding language (p.10), a review of all the communication channels we use to communicate with the community (p.11), students recognized for earning the ISBE Seal of Biliteracy (p. 15), Lakes Teacher Alex Jarosz winning a grant to attend a seminar at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library (p.14), our spring sports wrap ups (p.13 & 15), and our regular columns from Dr. Berrie and Ms. Bowen (p.12 & 14). If you haven't picked up a paper copy, all of the back issues are available online in three formats: PDF Download , Flipbook, & Website .
4. Partnership with Glenbard Parent Series - Free online events with nationally renowned experts!
We have partnered again this year with the Glenbard Parent Series to provide free access to the zoom feed for all of their upcoming events with nationally renowned experts on parenting, college admissions, mental health, personal wellness, and substance abuse prevention. Please review the brochure of their upcoming events at this link and find the zoom link for upcoming sessions on the web site at this link.
5. How will we decide if we need to close school for an E-Learning Day due to weather?
We have had beautiful weather during these first three months of the school year, but as autumn turns to winter, we must acknowledge the possibility of a severe winter storm in the coming months. This link addresses the common question: How do we decide when it is necessary to close school and implement an E-Learning Day due to inclement weather?
Have a question or topic for our November update? If you have a question or topic you would like us to include in our November update, please feel free to share your idea with our superintendent, Dr. Jeff Feucht via email (jeff.feucht@chsd117.org) or via phone (direct line: 847.838.7679).
